Did I miss how you formed these to match the wheel tub?

View attachment 125588

(just wanting to know how the cool kids do stuff :D)

I went really hi-techie techie on that one. I had a piece of .120" wall 4.5" tubing that I cut a 4" length off and then cut it in half lengthwise. Once I had two half circles or C's, I placed each one in my press and slowly flattened them out until they matched the contour that I was after of the wheelwells.

A little crude but it worked.

Thanks for asking.

I’m always the “crude” fan guy. Try not to be but it is what it is. Never a bad thing to learn/ask how other folks are doing things

Finished up the actual fabrication last night on the rear cargo storage rack in my son’s WJ.

Thanks for the comments guys. Nothing I'm doing is top secret so sorry I didn't explain that in the original post but glad you asked the question Mark.

There's just something cool to me about taking something that has lived it's purpose or isn't intended for the purpose you're looking for, looking at it in a different manner and manipulating it to live a different function. Since I've always lacked advanced fab tools/fabrication skills, I look for odd things at hardware stores that I can cut/manipulate/modify into things that work for me. Sometimes I just have to have someone with the advanced stuff bed, cut or whatever for me as a solution also.

I didn’t get more than a few minutes in my shop last night but did have the opportunity to clean up and put some tools away from last week’s fabrication work.

I also cleaned off my workbenches and disposed of a few boxes and left over parts from my son’s WJ project. This is the first time in two years my benches have been free and clear of anything on them.

I would also like to know more. I've been slowly acquiring tool chests for a similar type build.

Thanks guys. For some reason I thought I had posted up the build pictures of when I built my workbenches. I will find them and repost them.

I appreciate the feedback. I love my new workbenches in my new shop. I had cupboards under my benches in my last shop and much prefer the ability to organize things better in these. My tools are still in my actual toolbox but the boxes under my workbenches sure work out well for other things that I had on pegboards in my last shop.

Copied and pasted from my build thread on garagejournal. I used the HF44 toolboxes for these workbenches. I used four for the L-shaped bench and one for the 6' bench between my toolbox and lathe for a total of 5 boxes. The one under my 6' bench by the lathe contains mostly machining tools so they are within easy reach of either the lathe or the milling machine.

Benches are started. Using 1.5" x .120" wall square tubing.

One end piece clamped together for welding.

I was able to get four of the seven sections completed for the corner bench which I hope to make some progress on tomorrow then I can measure and order my tops.

Grabbed a couple pieces of receiver tube out of my metal supply and drilled a hole in each one and tapped to 3/8"-16 thread.
