FWIW, the founding fathers were predominantly Deist, so divinely or not, it wasn't necessarily a Christian inspiration.

Or, I suppose if you look at it as the Church of England using a divine mandate to ostracize protestants to the extent that they were willing to give up everything and risk major illness to sail across the world thus laying the framework of a protestant Christian nation that wanted a separation between church and state, then I do suppose in that way a divine Christian inspiration could have been the catalyst for the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.....if you believe that sort of thing ;) That definitely wouldn't be my analysis.

Was that way off topic?

Bwahahahahahahaha! Are you kidding me?

I absolutely did go to public school and public college, but I won't waste my time defending that. Instead, I'll bite and give you a chance to teach me something.

Please explain to me what my public education neglected to teach on this subject. I'm honestly and legitimately interested in hearing the missing facts. Sources would be swell too.

does anything on KSL actually add to a discussion? i learned not to read commentary posted on KSL as it makes me dream of a violent and abrupt end to all of mankind.

Precisely why I stopped commenting on SLTrib land use articles. Makes me want to throw a blanket party for half of the world.

I was so pissed at a guy once that I found out who he was, where he lived, and entertained the idea of showing up on his doorstep to see how his tune changed face to face. Then I remembered I'm not tough, so that's a bad idea.

you had me worried there for a second, but pulled it out with some witty self-deprecating humor:D

I agree with the above comments about KSL. Any website that is church owned will lean that way.

The public school comments I don't agree with. I especially disagree if you are comparing to private religion run schools all the way to collages because they will cater the lessons to their beliefs. I worked with a guy that believes the Earth is only 6000 years old and learned that at a private school. Home schooling worries me too because that is usually done by Evangelical Christians to be able to keep anything other than their narrow beliefs from their children. I have read quite a few books on religion and to put it simply, your church teaches very little. That goes for all churches.

I'd like to think I have a pretty good idea of what/who I am, and tough isn't it.

Unfortunately my mouth gets me into (and usually out of) some stupid situations. This may come as a surprise to some people ha ha.

Yes, get me started on schools. When I went to school there were not too many extracurricular activities and I feel like my education was much better with 45 to 60 students per class. We were not disruptive and did not sass the teachers even when they deserved it. Just witness the asinine answers given to Jay Leno on his Jay walking bit. The teachers did not try to indoctrinate us either like they do today. It seems like only yesterday (actually 1964) that I got a bad grade for informing the teacher of errors he made. I feel Cody was told to embrace secular humanism and be anti religion and since thats all he was told thats what he believes.
Just my opinion no basis in facts and I do like his choice of vehicle.

I've never met Cody but I think you are underestimating him. I went to church growing up and have educated myself and moved away from religion. Some move towards it, others move away. The latter is growing.

One of the creepiest movies I have seen was a documentary called Jesus Camp.

They are just growing up brainwashed a little different than the kids around here. They probably look at Mormons the same way you look at them.. ;)
By no means am I singling out mormons, I just advocate believing in whatever you want, but believe in yourself first.

And yes, by societal definitions I am an atheist and I'm raising my kids the same way as I was raised....to be a good person!!!

a good lesson best learned early. :D

All people, Marc? heh.. To a varying extent, that is absolutely true-- no one can really escape themselves. On the other hand, it could be argued that many people are able to consider another's point of view with a reasonable degree of success.
I'm mostly just poking at you though, I think I get what you meant. :D

EDIT: As for public schools, Central NY schools have been teaching that Pearl Harbor was a self-defensive attack by the Japanese. I'm not sure I can really say that they're doing too good a job if they're teaching stuff like that. ;)

How can you thank god you are an atheist?...haha that's funny, it's ok so am I.

You can't be a good person and not believe in God...or that is what many believe. YOU NEED TO BE SAVED!

The more I read about religion the happier I am to be an atheist.
