    How would YOU build a highway-worthy, ultra-cheap 4x4 on 35s?

The highway manners are poor enough that I avoid the interstate (and interstate speeds) whenever possible. It is noisy, uncomfortable, gets tossed about by crosswinds, drinks gasoline like a fish, and so on. Maybe it's my fault since I'm getting older, but I absolutely do not enjoy driving...

    How would YOU build a highway-worthy, ultra-cheap 4x4 on 35s?

Hmm. What rear axle(s) came in the ZJ? And how do 35s fit inside the wheel wells?

    How would YOU build a highway-worthy, ultra-cheap 4x4 on 35s?

Back in the day, I would have said the whole package. As much as I'd like that to still be the case, deep down inside I know it just isn't realistic. Yeah, I know. <sigh> Cost no object, this is the obvious solution. But it would be extremely out of the budget I'd have available.

    How would YOU build a highway-worthy, ultra-cheap 4x4 on 35s?

(This is purely a hypothetical situation, at least at the moment.) Let's say you were planning ahead. You currently trailer your not-highway-friendly rig everywhere you go, but you can see a future where trailering might no longer be possible. This makes you wonder what you might do to replace...

    EJS 2024

I just signed up for Dome Plateau on Wednesday as a tourist. I'm looking forward to seeing this trail. According to the web site, the leaders for this trail are Robert & Marsha Humphreys, with Kevin Fox, Andy Bunn and Adam Morris as gunners. Oh, and I see my Elephant Hill trail is already full...

Anyone play with E85 and boost?

What I would like to do--yes, this is an itch I am also wanting to scratch--is turbocharge and intercool an LM7 but keep the boost low enough that I can run it on 91 octane pump gas. If I don't go wild when selecting an upgraded camshaft and I keep the timing curve in check, I'm thinking I can...

Anyone play with E85 and boost?

Yes, precisely. Richard is a great guy. Watch his videos and do what he does. 👍

Anyone play with E85 and boost?

I like the painter's tape on the GN.

Anyone play with E85 and boost?

Stop right there. As Corky Bell wrote in his book Maximum Boost, an intercooler is not merely icing on the cake. It is more cake. While it is possible to run without an intercooler, it would be just plain silly to do so. Even Matt Happel (of Sloppy Mechanics fame) always runs an intercooler on...

    Turbo time!

Nah, I'll be plenty happy with the V8 engine that's in there. I need to get the Shelby back on the road. That will be my turbo toy.

    Turbo time!

Any idea what the original application was for this unit (assuming it isn't a total custom job like it appears to be)? What are the core dimensions? BTW: it gets substantial bonus points for having the inlet and outlet on opposite sides. This will reduce/eliminate internal 'backflow' issues...

I just opened a Roth IRA, and am ready to invest in the stock market

Happy new year, everyone. I'm sure we all remember the financial letdown that was 2022: It seems that for the last 3-4 months of 2022, every financial 'guru' was publicly crying about the imminent recession that was certain to obliterate us all in calendar year 2023. This gloom and doom...

    Subaru Outbacks

In the industry, we call that list price the crack pipe price. I know I'm looking at this through a dealership lens, but KBB trade-in shows a starting figure (ie, before deductions for any obviously-needed reconditioning) at only $3550. The listed price of $4200 might be a fair deal for a...

    Turbo time!

That'll do. (I'm old old school and used to just drill into the rubber line. Both ways work.)

    Turbo time!

It looks like you have the valve plumbed in correctly. (You'd be amazed how many people can fumble a simple operation.) Did you drill a tiny vent hole in the rubber line on the turbo side of the valve? This will allow residual pressure to escape after you drop out of boost, thereby promoting...

I logged in to check my status. I got most of my regular assignment: Mon -- Metal Masher 10am gunner Tue -- Elephant Hill leader Thur -- Seven Mile Rim gunner Missing from that list is my usual Wednesday assignment, which was a trail we lost (Day Canyon Point). I guess I will sign up for a...

The Car conundrum, what to buy.

For the curious: I went digging into my archives to remember what exhaust upgrade I installed. It was an axle-back bolt-on Pypes kit, and these specific mufflers (well, resonators) are called Pype Bombs. If you wanna hear them installed:

The Car conundrum, what to buy.

Full disclosure: I owned and daily drove a 2006 Mustang GT 5-speed for a year and a half a while back. There were three main versions of the n/a 4.6L V8 used in the Mustang: the standard 2v version used through 1998, rated 215 hp or 225 hp depending on year the Performance Improved version...
