If the axle compresses evenly, it will rotate just like shackles would...no work hardening. If there is body roll or articulation, the plate will need to twist. I assume it's made of a spring steel to deal with the intended motions.
I have in my mind that I need to use the rear case half from the 231J, to use a Jeep SYE. I don't remember if that's because there isn't one for the 231C, or if it's just because I have a Jeep one already. :)
I did this when I was a Scout also. Really cool memory....we were on an KC135, and all of us got a chance to go into the tail to "fly" the boom, prior to the actual refueling happened. Somewhere over Nevada, refueled a bunch of F4's. :cool:
