    Credit Score question

I think you may be right Nate. We've always had great credit at being in the low 800's. What was bothering me was we've NEVER been late on a bill and we don't have a lot of debt. We haven't had an auto loan since 1998 when we bought my wife's 1996 ZJ. I swore we would never borrow for...

    Credit Score question

When we had our last home we had a line of credit for $21k. We originally took out the line of credit to purchase our first motorhome to get a lower interest rate as it was attached to our home. After paying off the motorhome a few years later I asked at the bank if we should keep the line of...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

I received a call from my tire guy yesterday. He informed me that my Michelin XZA2 Energy 295/80R-22.5 tires arrived that I had him order a few days ago. I got the coach off the ground and removed the tires so I can bring them to the tire shop. Tag tires removed. I’m glad to get rid of these...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Agreed. They're a PITA. We did the JK D44 that we put in my son's WJ to correct the caster to pinion angle separation and although it wasn't a technical job it was just a nasty, messy and time consuming job. That was a 10-hour day of my life I'll never get back. :D Mike

General Tech What did you work on Today?

No this is not a welding positioner, I have a 6" 6-jaw chuck on my welding positioner. The rotary table is for machining on the milling machine and was not used much at all when I purchased it. I think the grease was probably less than a high quality grease to begin with. Mike

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Last night I took a few minutes to replace the diamond wheel on my Weld Craft tungsten dressing tool. I’ve had this tungsten grinder/dresser for about 10+ years and this is the original diamond wheel so I’ve been very impressed. Here you can see the wear around the outer third or so of...

Nice job on clocking the knuckles, that's no easy nor quick job. Welds look good. Mike

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Thank you, I appreciate the comments. I'll try to keep them coming then. Question for the group as this comment has come up a couple of times now. Would it be better to keep posting in this thread as I do work in my shop or would you like to see me start a separate thread for my shop...

    TIG Talk

I wouldn't say it is common but it's not uncommon. I think the biggest difference and why it is more prevalent when TIG welding compared to MIG welding is due to the high frequency start. As for the silicone bronze on the tips of the third hand I think it greatly reduces arc marks on your...

    TIG Talk

Great job on the third hand, welder's helper or whatever you want to call it. Great design and execution. One thing that I did to mine was used some silicone bronze and built up the contact points slightly with it. This will create a very good grounding connection between the work surface and...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Continuing on. I turned the cap around in the collet and used my small parts alignment tool to get it running true. This is an easily made shop tool using a piece of bar stock and a couple of small diameter bearings that clamps into a toolholder. Lastly I machined a .040” deep step...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Last night I was able to get a few housekeeping items addressed that I have wanted to for a while. I purchased a CK Fkexloc 230 about 6+ months ago but haven’t had time to put it on my Miller Dynasty. I remedied that. I also addressed a couple of tools for the lathe. I like having...

Nice job and nicely laid out. We have several fire suppression rooms and working on one that wasn't laid out as clean as yours is a PITA. Mike

    Picking a line when off-road

Excellent point. I too started wheeling with a 1992 XJ on stock tires and running mild trails/roads. We bought it for the wife's daily driver and a toad to tow behind our first coach back in 1995. That was a great vehicle and a great one to learn with although we didn't do anything too...

    Permanent Christmas lights

My neighbor just had them installed. I can see maybe at Christmas or even orange @ Halloween but he runs them all the time and they cycle through the multitude of colors. Looks like a freaking Vegas strip club. No let me take that back, a Vegas strip club would look better.

    Picking a line when off-road

I tend to be very methodical when off-roading. I know my Jeep and for the most part what it's capabilities are and I drive it like a baby carriage and assess each obstacle to accomplish a couple of things. I have overbuilt my Jeep to be more capable than places I will put it so it will go the...

    TIG Talk

I know you've been talking about aluminum but here's a little trick that I use a lot when tacking carbon steel components together prior to final welding. It doesn't work quite as well on aluminum. One of the problems with TIG welding is that both hands are being used to weld, one with the...

    TIG Talk

Sorry, didn't see this until now. For me, on the same 1/8" example I would start around the 140-150 amp range and see how fast the puddle establishes on the cold parent material. If it is longer than about 4-seconds I would bump it to maybe 160 but I would say the 140-150 is going to be close...
