General Tech 7 Best Mods for a new 4x4 Owner

I'd put tires further up on the list. Lots of 4x4 trucks come with fuel economy minded tires, which is great for a city truck, but will blow out a sidewall at the thought of a rock, or get stuck in the parking lot if it rained in the last week. I used to do all kinds of dumb stuff in a 2wd...

    Today I Want This....

That is pretty sweet. I saw a couple of those (the base rig) on a flatbed on the freeway last week. At that price point, though, I'd be inclined to get a unit from auction and build it myself.

    Today I Want This....

Nice. I'm assuming it's an OM617 being a 300, that's a pretty stout engine. If you want more than four gears, I make a kit to bolt a Ford transmission to it. No mention of it being a turbo, though, so only about 85hp.

School me on 1997 7.3 liters.

Most of it's been covered already, but make sure you only use Motorcraft Beru glow plugs, other brands like to swell and get stuck in the head. Delo 10w30XLE oil will help with cold starts and any cackling from sticking injectors. A good non silicate coolant is a must for any diesel, really...

And probably 5.13 gears in the diff for a top speed of about 50.

General Tech Honda 2.4L Engine Issue (Tensioner failed)

The VTC actuator is easy, I did one for a co worker last year. It took maybe an hour and a half. I did use the genuine Honda part, he was ok with the price.

That's better than my Explorer gets without a trailer.

    Jeep issues

I'd have to see some readouts from the sensors, but it sounds like the cat or rear O2s might be on its way out. It's easy to get around a worn cat, but if it's the sensor it'd have to be replaced. The evap can take a long time depending on fuel tank level.

Pretty much any check engine light and codes will cause it to fail emissions. What monitors are you waiting on?

    Funny Picture Thread

It's like with the Susan B Anthony coins, the designer had some great concepts, but in the end the half assed one that screams don't select me was chosen. It was a good move for Chevy, though, as they won't have to worry about the 2nd-3rd place competition now. They have a solid lock on third.

General Tech Honda 2.4L Engine Issue (Tensioner failed)

Did you replace the tensioner and chain when you rebuilt the engine? It looks like the tensioner is traveling a bit too far back, maybe not enough oil pressure or too much slack in the chain.

    “Nobody wants less penis”

They're just jealous of the modified crowd. I've gotten no complaints.

    Clamshell Bearing Tool

I've been on sites where they had service tool loaner programs. Biggest was on the Mercedes forum, where there were a lot of special tools you might need once in ownership of the car, but cost $300+. They'd be owned by one user, but shipped all over the country (insured of course). Paying...

    Clamshell Bearing Tool

That's an amazing price. I bought one for a shop I used to work at, looked identical, but was about $700. I've seen them down to $350 previously.

Searching for my next travel trailer

Whereabouts in AZ? I lived in Phoenix for a year and a half, and used to escape to Payson and Flagstaff whenever I could.

    Anyone familiar with ceramic coating?

Used to be that white wasn't clear coated. I don't know if they still do the paint that way, but if they do it technically has one less layer of paint than any other color.

    Today I Want This....

Why Photoshop it into a studio? Why not some outdoor location? At least fix the shadows so they match the lighting angle. It's a good looking rig, but my OCD isn't letting me see it.
