Topic of Discussion TOD: Offroad preparedness

My last breakdown taught me a lesson: If you use your spare fuel pump from the jeep first aid kit on another project make sure you replace it. Losing your fuel pump late Saturday night on the Hole in the Rock trail is not a good thing !

    Is it worth keeping ?

I really need to start cleaning up all of the extra stuff I have laying around and wondered if anyone would ever have a use for the AMC v8 to BOP th400 adapter that came on my old 73 Commando ? I have the flexplate and the flexplate spacer too. Does anyone use these anymore or should I send them...

Look at what my son found, what shall we do with it?

I've got three of those besides the two 60's so no fooling me on that one ;) Now if I could get my SIL and his brother to build the 44s I can get some room in my garage.

Lightning does strike in the same place twice Well you guys convinced my son to hang on to the 78 HP60 so he went out again to see what he could find and guess what ? Yeah he found several more. We snagged one from an 86 F350 that was a nice king pin 60 so now we have one to keep and one to...

We visit several of the places where you pull the parts here in Salt Lake. The key is that you need to be a regular visitor since the inventory turns over quickly.

Yeah I figured that it would be a mistake to let out how much we paid but I couldn't resist. Besides the last time I had a 60 front and 14 bolt rear no one on RME would come with cash and pick it up so I ended up selling the axle set on Pirate.

I shouldn't do this but the place we frequent has front axles for $69.99 however they charged us extra for the tie rod bar, steering shock and brake calipers. They also dinged us for cores on all of them (and tax). We ended up at $136.90. I had an extra steering bar , shocks and calipers at home...

Look at what my son found, what shall we do with it?

We were there just before closing time so we couldn't take anything off to lighten it up. We tried one of the two wheeled wheelbarrows but we didn't get it balanced so it was pulling a wheelie. We then tried one of the wheeled engine pulling frames but the chain wouldn't go down far enough so we...

That would get it out of my garage, but I'll pass on that one.

We'll have to consider that. You have to love the places that charge the same for a Dana 30 as a 60 :D

Look at what my son found, what shall we do with it?

My son was out wandering in the yards when he found a very hard to find gem. Its a 78 Ford high pinion king pin Dana 60 with drivers drop, 4.10 gears, and the narrow width spring perches (long drivers side). The question is what should we do with it ? I came up with a few ideas: A. Charge him...

I guess I better come in and take care of my small parts credit before some new owner doesn't know who I am.

In search of the Anasazi (Beef Basin)

Elephant Hill was in good shape, at least the last half was. We came in from the south so we missed the first part of the trail. Others were on it so I think they must have fixed whatever was wrong. I didn't see any trail repairs except on the road going to the trail head.

In search of the Anasazi (Beef Basin)

We went down to Beef Basin a couple of weekends ago to check out the Anasazi ruins and to do some exploring. We camped two nights in the BLM designated camp spots and didn't have any company. The stars at night were awesome. The ruins are all over the place if you looked for them. We really had...

    New project: Cheap junk YJ

The Dodge 241 swap with the chevy 241 input is way easy, I'm doing it on my commando project. Also with the dodge case if you re-drill one hole on the chevy trans adapter you can clock the 241D flat without using a clocking ring. We also swapped the six gear planetary from the 241C leftovers...
