    xj 4wd issues

If it were my jeep I would ditch the disconnect axle and drop in a newer non-disconnect axle.

    reverse rotation drill bits??????

My son had a similar thing happen to his comanche out at Simpson Springs. His cast motor mount bracket busted in half and sheared off the bolts in the block which allowed his motor to tip and puncture the oil filter. Luckily he stopped it before the engine seized. I had to extract the bolts from...

Gas tank for the commando project

Don't run over it yet, I may need to come see it first to see how it would fit.

Gas tank for the commando project

CJs are right side fill but it would depend on whether the tank has an angled rear. If it doesn't have a rear angled section it could be turned 180 degrees.

Gas tank for the commando project

I would like to run an in tank pump for the TBI I will be putting on the 350 and that one looks like it would fit and has the fill in the right place. Thanks for all of the ideas everyone.

Ok I may have to do that. I presume you have to find a manager and ask them.

Gas tank for the commando project

I have been looking at possible gas tanks for the commando project and wanted to get some ideas on it. I have widened the frame and have a space about 34" wide x24" long to fit a tank in. I am putting in fuel injection and want to use an in tank pump. I have measured a bunch of tanks out at the...

BRRRRRR Who turned down the thermostat ?

I just got back from a week in Orlando showing off our companies latest flight simulator to the military and about froze to death waiting for my ride at the airport. It was nice when I left, must be that global warming thing again. I need to get back out in the garage to work on the commando...

Jeep Hey you XJ guys!!! How do I get to the heater core?

You can take the heater box apart without pulling the whole thing out. There is a band around it that you cut and then you remove about six screws and the box will split into two halves. Once it is apart you can access the cores. I have a box in the basement and a few spare cores if you want one.

    Engine Swap Question

(ii) If a 1984 and newer vehicle has an engine other than the original, the vehicle owner must have the vehicle inspected by the Department and must demonstrate to the Director that the emission control systems on that engine are equally or more effective in controlling emissions as those...

    Engine Swap Question

I was told by the county emissions guy when I called that an 84 or newer vehicle could use a newer engine if it was offered in that model in that year or newer and you used all of the emissions equipment. I have an 84 with a 99 engine and had an 86 with a 92 engine and they pass the smogs tests...

    Jeep cj5 engine swap

I put a 4.0 in place of a 4 cylinder in my 84 scrambler and it works well. At times I wish it had eight cylinders. If you use the wiring from your XJ it shouldn't be too bad. On my cj8 the 4.0 mounts in just fine using the older cj 6 cylinder motor mounts. On your older cj you might have to make...

    Proportioning Valve

My old 77 cj7 had the exact same problem. It was so bad we named it the red sled and pretty much gave up driving it in the snow. I should have tried swapping out the proportioning valve to see if that would have helped. Keeping the rear brakes adjusted properly also helps. If you want to try an...

    Axle alignment question

The TJ has a teraflex long arm on it with a tera 60 rear. The rear track bar mount is raised up quite a bit but uses a stock track bar as far as I know. It has the teraflex adjustable front track bar which is what I was trying to adjust.

    Axle alignment question

My son in law's brother brought his TJ over for a death wobble cure and to find some other problems that came after his last trip up constrictor. I found and fixed a bunch of bad and broken parts which included a broken upper control arm bolt, loose upper control arm bushing, bent drag link...
