TurboMinivan's 1998 Wrangler Sport build thread

Your post is the first time I have seen this photo. Perhaps I'll try going by his place after work tonight. He will be done working on it by that time, but at least I could see it.

I'm glad to hear that, because Matt hasn't contacted me since sending the above two pictures of all my shiny new parts. Fortunately for me, I've been distracted by the new (to me) car I just bought. :D

Oops. I just cleared out a lot of old messages, so try again.

Okay, let me check with Matt. Speaking of, he sent me two pictures. He has started opening all my boxes of goodies:

Matt is willing to do it for you (after my Jeep is done). What kind of locker is it? Oh, and I dropped my Jeep off at his place. I told him about this thread and encouraged him to post photos as the work progresses. :D

TurboMinivan's 1998 Wrangler Sport build thread

Insofar as my schedule will allow, you bet. My work is being done by my friend Matt. He is on RME (I think his screen name is UPN04 or something like that) but rarely posts. He has years of experience at this stuff; he used to own and run his own 4x4 shop in Orem. However, he no longer has...

TurboMinivan's 1998 Wrangler Sport build thread

Sorry I haven't checked in on this thread (or even the whole forum) for a few days now. UPDATE: I now have all my parts mentioned above. I am dropping the Jeep off at Matt's shop tomorrow evening. I would like to assist him where I can, but my schedule is so restrictive that I know he'll be...

Snakes Morning Run Thursday 26 July

Well, crap. Thursday is my regular day off work and I live right next to that Chevron, so I would love to come along... except next Thursday my Jeep will be torn apart in the middle of its Extreme Makeover Wrangler Edition. :( Makes me wish I still had two Jeeps.

    Wiring aux reverse lights.

Sorry, I was confusing you because I forgot you wanted them to only come on with your existing lights. My comments were all centered around installing a separate toggle switch to control the extra lights. Follow what JL said and you'll be golden.

    Wiring aux reverse lights.

Oh, totally--that's what I would do, also. When I said I'd toggle the relay with the ground wire, I meant I would trigger the relay (ie: the low-power side, the side controlled by your dash-mounted toggle switch) via the ground wire. This way there are no additional hot wires coming through...

Other Region Upcoming Trip: Rubicon Trail Lake Tahoe, CA Sept 5-8th 2012

I agree completely, which is why I posted this--to allow anyone interested to call a store now and ask if it would be allowed. (Perhaps you could mention stocking up for the trip....)

Other Region Upcoming Trip: Rubicon Trail Lake Tahoe, CA Sept 5-8th 2012

It looks like there are half a dozen Wal-Marts in Reno; why not ask one of them? They let you park RVs in their lot, so why not a truck and trailer? Just a thought.

You've got the general idea, yes. Using a relay is definitely The Right Thing To Do since it will (a) provide proper power for the lights and (b) won't overload the circuit that toggles the relay. You can get some more specific ideas here...

Help me make up my mind.

No need to apologize, Kevin. If I had done all that, I'd be just as up in arms about it as you are. ;)

Help me make up my mind.

I expected as much, Kevin. I was trying to add clarification since I feel at least partly responsible for introducing the relevant headed debate to this thread in the first place. Just trying to keep the peace, that's all. I agree with your intent, and I would be inclined to agree with your...

If anyone wants further clarification, you can read the law for yourself. From page 22: And there you have it. Per the law, you should not have had any trouble--those adapters are completely legal.

Help me make up my mind.

I asked one of my techs before posting. He said that adapters are legal, including adapters that space the wheel outward. However, simple spacers are illegal. Were he to inspect a vehicle, if the adapters installed did not change the wheel bolt pattern, he would be required to fail it. Thus...

    Rock lights, cb mount ideas.

The photo on the package makes it looks like these are spot lights--the beam is far too focused to be an effective rock light: At least I always figured rocks lights are most effective with a flood pattern.

Not to pick sides, but here is something else for you to consider, Kevin: Within certain limits, body lifts are street legal in Utah. Wheel spacers, on the other hand, are not. (At least that's what Utah law was the last time I looked it up.) FYI

    Mineral Basin night run 7.7.12

(whisper) Yeah, I know. I was making a lame Meat Loaf reference, hoping it would at least make Steve chuckle. (/whisper)
