    "jerking" at certain tow speeds

I don't think it is the transmission slipping at all. The wheel bearing could be, or the other idea I have come up with is a tire issue on the trailer (balance, flat spot etc).

I've stayed at Big Horn Lodge a couple of times. Fairly cheap and clean.

Lost Josephine Mine/Hoyt Peak - Scranton and the Buckhorn

At what point does an old mine become "historic" and should be forever repserved vs an abondoned mine that should be reclaimed? One of the biggest selling points to new mining is that it will be reclaimed (correct, I think) but if it is ignored long enough is it okay not to? Just a...

    "jerking" at certain tow speeds

On Saturday I was hauling a horse trailer (3k pounds?) plus one horse (roughly 1,000 pounds) behind my Yukon XL (about an 8k tow rating). From about 40-45 mph, there would be a 'jerking' feel to the ride. Smoothed out at speeds above and below and overall trailered very well. Without the...

I thought that it has been maintained to some degree for a number of years...shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

your opinions on full size rig for towing and daily driving

If you are thinking camper and towing at the same time, I would agree that you need to go big- either fuel source. Of course the improved fuel economy of a diesel will not make up for the extra cost at the purchase end, so don't do it for that reason. If you are driving around town with only...

    Publishing Trail Locations

But public land = public access. Trying to keep most people off public land is the goal of groups like SUWA. I don't think it should be ours. Of course that doesn't mean taking out billboards along the highway. I just don't like an ownership mentality that some have (we have seen that before...

    Is sheetmetal overrated?

I think the answer is made unless you want to trailer. If it need to stay street legal, you will need the metal.

I understand the incomplete maps. I doubt anywhere in the state are maps complete. But if it is an established route, why hide it? (from your reply, I assume you are talking old, established trails that are not on the map, right?)

    Blazer or Cruiser???

Chase your dream and get the cruiser. Just make sure you got the cash to do it right. They aren't cheap. I would also go with the cruise since Blazer's width can be an issue at times.

    Publishing Trail Locations

Makes it sound like we have illegal trials hoping to become legal over time. Very bad idea!! In general, I don't think that every trip needs to be broadcast to the world, but at the same time no club has the right to claim a trail in public land as "their trail". If it is a legal trail on...

    Next tire purchase poll

I have to second that one. Good for all types of conditions, decent on the highway as well. Will probably jump up a size now with the lift (255/85R 16??).

** Potential ** Fund raising idea

A couple of thoughts come to mind: First, product sales can earn more money than asking for donations....people like to buy stuff, but many hate to give away their cash. I know I have purchased more Ducks Unlimited products than I have given them donations. And for good or bad, "edgy" and...

Lost dog in San Juan county

Unfortunately, no vets in Monticello. Closest vets likely to be able to help are in Cortez and a couple in Moab. I will foward the info to one of the clinics in Moab that I know well. Good luck.

    Trail ratings

As I have not spent enough time in Moab, Kane Creek makes a good comparrison in my mind since that is the most difficult trail I have done. But beyond that, it is simply learning to picture what certain ratings mean. The link Kurt posted is great...thanks!!

    Trail ratings

with as subjective as "difficulty" is and the fact that trails change over time, it is a given that not everyone is going to agree on ratings or order of "more difficult". But if those who know the trails well could put numbers on a few, I would find that very helpful.
