    Nutty Putty Cave

What attitude is that exactly? 'We are tired of stupid mistakes putting people's life at risk?' Do not forget that SAR is a dangerous hobby- they have every right to speak up and change what is becoming a repeated problem. Too often people assume they can head out unprepared and someone...

Missing 11yr old in the Uintas

The river runs through the camp. And if I remember right from the when I was with scouts up there the climbing wall he ws leaving is across the river from most of the camp. Can we post a meeting place and time and those who can go (I am a maybe as well right now) can meet and caravan up?

Close OPEN trails to Salt Lake City.

Last I heard, farmington canyon was closed due to the road washing out. Shouldn't affect the bountiful side or up high.

    Cherokee A/C problems

Wonder if anyone has ideas on what could be going wrong with the air cond. in my parents (formerly my) 01 cherokee sport. After running the a/c for a while (can be 10 minutes, may be 40) it will shut off. Works again after 5-10 minutes of rest. Started last summer on my way to lake Powell (and...

Any Castle Dale, UT area RME members?

Well, I spent Sunday evening and all day monday of memorial day weekend in the area. As I had mentioned, my maps showed two "dry washes". checked out both. One is located off the Moore cut-off road, just east of the "dry wash" petroglyph panel. Found four road in the area (2 each heading...

    Heard of Crosslander?

It will be interesting to see just what they are like if/when they really get here. from what I found out when I initially posted, they were meant as anything but a luxury (that ain't spelled right, is it?) vehicle. Anything geared for off-road and relatively cheap is worth a look in my mind!

Any Castle Dale, UT area RME members?

e-mailed you two different dry washes with trails/roads shown on my maps in the area. Dry Wash is such an original term to use in the desert.

Buying a slightly used SUV or Truck

Personally, I think alot of people use over kill on tow ratings. With a trailer with brakes, I have no hesitation to push the tow limit. My Dad tows a 22 foot boat (4,500 or so pounds) to Lake Powell with his GC with the 4.0 and I have towed the same boat behind an xj. Yes you are better...

Buying a slightly used SUV or Truck

I picked up my 03 Montero Sport with 17k miles for about $16,000 last fall. Gets about 18-19 mpg (I do 85 miles/day round trip). Has a 5,000 tow rating, but I have not tried anything that heavy yet. Towing could be your only problem.

    San Rafael ideas wanted

I am going to make a short trip to the San Rafael Swell coming up. I have picked up a county published bookle showing alot of the petroglyphs and dinosaur tracks reachable on well maintained roads, but wonder what else is out there and I should head for. We will stay in the Castledale area...

    Tow Rig Tire Options

Towing does not put a real heavy load on the tires of the tow vehicle- just look at tongue weight on trailer data will show you that. ( 5000 pound trailer will usually be a less than 500 tongue weight) In that regard, my personal guess is that a D rated tire would still wear just fine and you...

    towing with a jeep?

2.8 and manual are the totally wrong tow set ups. I did a little towing of 22 foot boat (4500 or so pounds) when I had my xj without trouble, but it was 4.0, automatic and good trailer brakes.

Are you a RADICAL anti-environmentalist? Then what are you?

The issue of terms is a big one. "enviromentalist" should not be the exclusive domain of the wilderness/lockout groups, but that is what it now means. I would be proud to call myself a conservationalist (ie use, protect and enjoy the land, but with wisdom). Unfortunately when you look at...

    need help with school report

Great job!!!! Key idea to me would be that land use and environmental protect are not exclusive. Many of us who use the land (wheeling, snowmobiles etc) love the land just as much as those who want to lock everyone out. I am sure the major wheeling groups can get you the facts and details...
