You're right! Cage building take a ton of time! I find myself spending almost as much time thinking about it as I spend actually working on it!

I would love to see some pics, I've been looking at a lot of build threads to see other designs & different ideas! Being 6'3" my biggest concern seems to be head clearance & getting in & out without difficulty. Beign able to look at different builds really helps but maybe that is what is making it take so long!?!?:shawn:

^^ Skip that last request ^^ Actually, I just looked back through the last few pages & saw a lot of really good pics & ideas!!:rofl::rofl:

I like the shorter corner tubes rather than big X braces that I see in full on buggies & Super aggressive crawlers!

Naturally I want a strong & safe cage, but it needs to be accessible, plus I need it to fit underneath a soft top, which I think yours will!

Ya the short corner tubs I think will help with strenght alot. The other thing I think it will help with is a place to grab as the wife and kids try and get into the rig..

I also got some of these for in the corners for extra strenght and also a place to tie off if I needed it.. With having kids in my rig I want it to both be functional and safe.

So I have got a couple of things done on my project. I am almost done with the rock sliders and tieing the cage into the frame. :D

Here are the tie-ins from the cage to the frame. This was very hard because the bolts go threw the cage, threw the base plates and spacers on the sliders, then threw the conecters to the frame..

Plates on the frame and tapping into the frame to bold on the tie-ins.

I dont think that the sliders or cage is going anywere. After I get them all done there will be 34 bolts going threw each rock slider that all have to line up between the cage, body, and frame.:ugh:

I will be sure to take plenty of pics when they are all finished up.

Mine's great- just a few suspension tweaks were all that I needed. Still not finished...life has a way of interrupting things. Been working on other people's stuff...

That is awesome. That is a good sign that it was done right when u get it all put together and there r hardly any bugs.
Oh I have learned all about stuff when it come to working on my project. LOL

I keep thinking that those short corner bars are good for that reason, but I'm afraid of them being too easy to grab in a flop or roll & causing injuries!!:-\

I thought about putting an arc in them & rotating them a little bit inboard so they wouldn't contact the ground on the same plane as the roll cage bars just to be safe!:)

I've rolled only once, & had the steering wheel to hang onto, I know the first thing every passenger is going to try to grab is a bar over their head!

If the most obvious thing above your head wont crush your hand against the ground, that would be a good thing! Right?:D

BTW: Those gussets look cool & handy! I might have to make something like that for myself!!:greg:

Bart, thanks for the compliment. Chad doesn't let me get away with anything. LOL. When can I come check out your project?
Anytime. Not much of a project right now. I'm driving it around town. Looking for a 14 bolt to drop in the rear, and saving for ARBs and a 5.3/700r4 swap. : )

I like short straight tube for gussets. As for grab handles, I like to make them separate, either with bent tube or the velcro on kind. Any new passenger that rides with me gets a lesson on not grabbing the roll bar and where exactly they can grab. Very important. If I see a passenger do that, even in another rig, I'll bring it to their attention.

Deweyxj, Because the cage is build out of 1 3/4" and the gussets are 1 1/4" they are not on the same plane as the roll cage. Also I rotated them in just a bit with your comment in mind as well. That way if someone happend to do what I tell them not to do! then hopfully there hand wont get crushed.

I am with Bart thought I give anyone that rides in my jeep a good talking to about not grabbing the roll cage in the event of a roll.. As with my Kids I play a little game with them. They know that if I yell roll they are to grab onto there shirt or seatbelt as tight as they can. I do that in the hopes that if a roll ever happens I can yell roll and it will be instinct that they grab there seabelt or shirt..
I don't know if it will work I have never had to test it but kids fallow by repartition.

I hope that info helps.

That is great Bart. I hope you are enjoying it! I will have to check but I have a buddy that had a 5.3 and a 4L60E that he got for a project and decided not to do it I can see if he still has it. I may have a line on a 14 bolt as well if u are interested?

Ok time a little update. So I got the rock sliders all but finished I only have to build a template and put the piece in between the bar and the slider. I am going to dimple die the plate and then flip it over for traction. I think they will look good. I am so excited on how these turned out.

I was able to get the roll cage all but finished up. All's that I have to do now is weld on tabs for the seats and seatbelts. I think the cage turned out great! I really like the lines of it. I need to give a big thanks to Chad for helping me with it. I had know idea on how to bend pipe and he helped me out tramendously. Also he left me alone enough that I was able to do most of it my self with him just double checking to make sure I did it right.

Let me know what you guys think?;)
