Is there some sort of safe tent heaters or ???

There are several heater options out there but the safe ones are VERY expensive. I have a Big Buddy heater I use when it's really cold. They are great but even with their built in safety features you have to be extremely careful with them. I never run mine through the night I just run it long enough to change clothes and climb into the sack.

The best advice I can give is change into a fresh pair of heavy wool socks and thermals right before you go to sleep. Don't make the mistake of thinking you'll be fine sleeping in what you were wearing all day. Even a little moisture will make for a long miserable night. I like wearing sweat pants, a baklava, beenie and a hoodie as well. Sleeping in the bed of a truck is fine just make sure you have a good sleeping pad the more insulation under you the better. I like having a gator aid bottle nearby to wiz in.. Nothing is worse than a cold night sleep--really nothing is lol.

Walmart sells Ozark fleece indoor sleeping bags for around $12. They make a really nice liner inside your sleeping bag money well spent. See you out there

I use a fleece bag inside a zero degree bag with clean thermals, clean socks, a beenie, and sometimes a hoodie. My tent isnt a 4 season tent, so I also run my heater all night off a 20 lb propane tank. I have been comfortable with that setup. I also sleep on a cot with an air mattress. This setup has worked so far, but in the back of the truck, I would want lots of insulation under me.

We are planning on attending as well and have posted on EU. Hopefully a spot opens up with the ExpUT crew, otherwise we will tag along with the caravan but make our own camp and not barge in on their activities.

Stoked for some cool weather and another Winter Solstice viewing!

Not enough meat on him yet. What are you doing that night? ;)

I'm debating sleeping in the cab of the truck or putting out my cheap tent with a tent heater. I think sleeping in the bed isn't a bad idea as long as the weather doesn't get too ugly. If the wind picks up I'd hate to be depending on a tarp for shelter

I have a nice kodiak and heater if you need a plus one. I didn't meet the minimum requirements to escort myself this year.

Your in luck the gods of ExpeditionUtah love me, and I have room for a plus one!
Great I'm also qualified to give gas money.... Just another skill of mine worth bringing up.

I think it will be a double-bagger. I am not a fan of double-baggers but a mans gotta do what a mans gotta do.

I'm going to double bag, wrap my air pad in a wool blanket, and stuff my underwear full of those toe warmer things.

And I'm bringing extra gas in case I have to bail to the truck and run the heater all night. :D

There were a handful on the waiting list for the run, keep an eye on the EU thread as Stephen has been updating the list, at this point just about everyone on the list has had a spot open up. If your not going to be able to make it, please post up (in the EU thread) so your spot can be offered to the next in line and so the group isn't waiting for you. I'm getting excited, gonna be a great group again this year!
