you guys are i silly. this more then likely has nothing to do with uhp. i agree with u about the mudflaps its dumb in the safety book it says any tire larger then oem your required to have mud flaps. come on people have some common sense a tire one may be two inchs bigger isn't going to change much if they fit under the vehicle like they should

Maybe you ought to...

1. use some punctuation, your posts are making my eyes bleed
2. KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT

There is nothing illegal about the Jeep in question, therefore, he shouldn't be having any problems, much less any alleged UHP harassment.

Well, Jenn had the pleasure of calling and speaking with a "qualified" representative of the UHP today. They informed her that she was supposed to take the jeep and her completed passed safety to the main office to have it looked over again. She told them that none of the paperwork nor the officer stated that. They said, well you do.

Now we have to go BACK down there so some chucklehead can critique the jeep.......again. Meanwhile, someone will be getting murdered, robbed, beaten and sodomized, but her mudflaps will be the proper length:rolleyes:

It's clearly all about justifying salaries right now.........not that they make much

Does seem very odd they would go to the extent of revoking registration over any of this.

I think we all know that a vehicle isn't required to meet safety/street legal requirements only at the exact moment of inspection, but a 'fix it' ticket seems far more reasonable than revoking registration.

I have a question for anyone with factual knowledge of the law in this regard. Would it be considered 'fraud' in a legal sense if you knowingly alter a vehilce so it passes while planing to return it to an illegal form? If a shop knew this to be the case, could they (not saying they should) report it?

IMO, yes it is fraud by definition.

Have we seen photos of this offending jeep? Is it one that is on the verge of legality on every issue? In my mind I picture a semi-built TJ with mud flaps. Is this your everyday jeep you see on the freeway or is it pushing the limits?

For you that are defending the UHP on this, put your blinders back on and go away. This is a pure case of harassment because one UHP officer got his panties in a wad when he misinterpreted where and why Marcus took this Jeep to an outside inspection station. Read the first thread (carefully) and open your eyes.

You are right. I should always take one side of the story as fact. Silly me. the other thread he talked about how to get around the inspection and an overly aggressive uhp. Sounds like both sides are wrong to me.

I with Bart on this one. This is a uhp officer with a grudge out to show marcus who has more power! End of story! Here is another example of them getting out of line. Last week my buddy got stop in a 2000 tacoma with 6" fatech on 285/75/16 on a 8" rim, no mud flaps, flares and clear corners and they revoked his safety. In my opinon that's equivlent to revoking someones DL for going 8 over. It should be no more than a fix it ticket on the first offense.

Photos says a lot. You see jeeps like that every day on the road. That should not be hard to get that past Utah law with some normal maintenance and common sense. That defiantly does not deserve the attention that it is getting or does not deserve to have the inspection pulled.

For what this is worth. I talked via the phone to the UHP inspection people a few times over mine over some tick-tack things, and my experience with them was that they were very good and knowledgeable. I educated myself very well over the items that I knew would be questioned to the point where I understood the law and the UHP inspection manual better than the inspectors. So when I had a challenge they just called the UHP for clarification. My thought was that if you had that inspection ready and took it to a UHP it would be a short trip.

But you take a combination of the threads and the revocation of his reg *MAY* be justified. He put on stock (or smaller) tires, etc so he could pass. Gets is passed and puts his 35s back on. This is fraud. He defrauded the system. If he had kept everything he did to get it to pass safety on as his DD, then it would be a different story.

To me, what he's done is the same thing as someone looking for a station that will overlook their safety violations. Just because you got is passed doesn't make it legal.

EDIT: I'm not saying it's a wildly built jeep resembling a buggy. It does look like 90% of the lifted jeeps out there, but just because someone else is doing it, doesn't make it right (or legal). This is also why I said in my first sentence *MAY* be justified. ;)
