KTM 300 Database

I know this is the 300 database thread but it pertains. As some of you may know, I bought Grant's KTM 200XCW for Harrison. He absolutely loves the bike. All I have done to it is temporarily lowered about an inch untill he gets used to the heigth difference from his CRF150RB. He has really picked up riding the bigger bike fast. I am also in the middle of changing his bike over to be able to run an LED headlight and I have installed a OX-Brake Left Hand Brake last night. I have tried the Rekluse Left Hand Brake and it works fine as long as you keep your bike rubber side down.

The OX-Brake is a cable brake that you bolt on an extension to your rear brake.

Then you run the cable up under your tank and mount it on your handlebars. I have a Rekluse on my 300 but I prefer to keep my clutch lever so I have mounted my brake lever right under my clutch lever like show here on Harrison's.

Simple idea and it has worked flawlessly on my 300. I have asked Harrison a bunch of times if he wants a Rekluse yet and he keeps telling me that he doesnt ride like an old man and doesnt need one but he did say he wanted the brake for those knarly tight right turn down hill hairpin switchbacks. So know he has a Left Hand Brake(LHB).

The Ox-Brake can be purchased HERE and its 1/2 has much as the Rekluse LHB and twice as good. I bought a throttle tube from them which they dont have a listing for it on the website and they also have a new map holder that mounts out the way on the handlebars which I should see sometime this week. I am looking forward to that as well because I tend to get my maps wet in my pockets.

I need to get a new silencer and spart arrestor for my 300XC. I already have an FMF Gnarly pipe on it.

Suggestions?
I have run both the Turbine core II and the Q-Stealth. I think the bike runs cleaner with the Turbine Core, but the Q-stealth is quieter. I usaully only ran the Q-stealth when I raced at Idaho City to be sure I did not have any troubles clearing the sound check.

Thats the the info I was looking for. I ride in Idaho and would never race there and from everything I have read it's not that much quieter. I was just hoping I wasn't overlooking ProCircuit or some other brand

Stratton, my main reason for a new muffler is the need for a spark Arrestor

Here is a new option for you although I do not know if it is on the market yet.

A friend of mine is doing a test of the new YZ250X and is testing this as part of it. Look up @gxeoffroad on instagram.

Im in the market for a bike. These seem to be super popular and fairly available on the used market. I would like to spend $3k but would spend up to maybe $5k if it means a large jump in bike. I get super confused with the ktm models and different generations. Hoping you guys could help me figure out witch 300 I am looking for. What are the year points for the different generations?

Electric Start
wide ratio trans
Simple right?

 keeping the DRZ right??
Most likely its not worth anything no point in selling it. I was forced to ride the knolls Saturday I need another bike that will work better for that type of riding. Im a little gun shy about buying an old 4t due to the cost of repair. A 300 Seems like the cool thing to do and Im thinking I can score like an 08 or so in my budget so still old but not super old.

08 was the first year of the big upgrades.
11 was first year with a 6 speed
12 the xc has a linkage.
Xcw is wide ratio and has no linkage but has an odo and headlight. The xc is ready for a headlight but doesn't come with one.
Not sure when easy button was standard but 11 and on have them for sure.

Not sure when easy button was standard but 11 and on have them for sure. The difference in gearing between the XC and XCW is only first gear and the front sprocket. The real question is whether or not you want linkage. As stated above, the XC got linkage in 2012. Personally, I don't care about the linkage. I'm not busting whoops all day long. I do however like the XC gearing. I'm not in 1st gear that often and when I am, I would rather have the higher 1st gear that the XC has. You can run 2nd gear all day long with a Rekluse.

The XC is wired for a headlight with the exception of a switch. I could have used a light on my XC Saturday. I have everything for a LED setup but just need to float the ground on my Stator. Anyone here ever done that? I would like some help so I dont screw it up.

The Husaberg TE 300 was like a xcw with some fancy parts on it up to 2013.
The Husqvarna TE 300 has suspension somewhere between the xc and xcw with a headlight, odo and speedo, and the wide ratio 6 speed but it has linkage and all the fancies too. 2014-2016

I guess I am not part of the cool kids club any longer and it seems strange and hypocritical since I have been vocal about buying a 300 2t over a 4t........ let alone a 350 4T

There are a ton of people that love that 350. It will be fun to see what you think about it after a while. The next time I buy a 4 stroke is because I am headed to ride Baja and then I will sell it when I get back

Congrats that's really cool, I really liked the 2015 350xc I rode for a Saturday.
I'm interested how you'll like the sx versus a xc.
I'm not sure I liked having so little flywheel weight riding offroad when I had my two mx bikes.

Biggest difference between for the drivetrain in the XC & SX is the transmission. XC 6 speed, SX 5 speed that is spaced less than the XC. For the most part, I don't believe I will miss the extra gear and from what I see, the SX 1st gear is a little lower than the XC which I think will work fine. Weight is easily added to the flywheel.
