ive heard so many differant numbers on how long this race is. at the pre-tech they told me 2 laps of about 75 miles each, now ive heard 35 mile laps and 3 laps, and what ever else. does anyone know the official milage?

2 laps of 35 miles for the side by sides and 4 wheelers for a total of 70 miles. 2 laps of 75 miles for all other classes for a total of 150. total time limit is 8 hours. there will be limited piting up in the back side mountain section so we will be running a pit support trailer there.

Drivers meeting will be 20 minutes before the race for side by sides and 4 wheelers and your race will start at aproximatly 6:30am

Drivers meeting for car and truck classes will be 1 hour before the race and your race will start at aproximatly 11:00am

Wendover is busy this time of year with speed week & other groups so rooms will get taken early for those of you who miss out on rooms there will be camping allowed at the main pit area. [/URL]

FYI if summit has your parts in stock at their sparks NV location it only takes 2 days ground shipping which is free!
You can check online for avaliability

When I went to place the order it said it would be here monday or tuesday so for $15 extra they can get to me by this friday so it was worth the money just for one less thing to worry about. Now if foa would ship as fast as summit...

Please tell me your going to sand off the rust where you plan on welding it. Oh and you are going to need to continue that diagonal bracing down below the seat belt bar.

Also, you will need to put some kind of metal firewall around your cell since you're planning on putting it in the passengers compartment.

Like I said, we are following BITD and KOH rules. I am not going to be a nazi about every little rule like some tech inspectors are, but it MUST be safe to be allowed to race.

The main things we'll be looking at during tech inspection are helmets (snell 2000 or better), firesuits, firegloves (leather is ok), 5 pt. harnesses, cage design and craftsmanship, lights (headlights, two red tail lights, brake lights, rear facing amber light, rear facing blue light), fuel cells (if it's located in the passenger compartment it must be firewalled), Fuel vents (the vent must go to a high point in the vehicle, then loop down below the fuel cell to keep fuel from dumping in a roll), and anything else that looks like a possible safety issue to you or the other racers.

I'm going to be more lenient than BITD or SCORE inspectors, but please make sure your rig is safe and will at least pass all the things I mentioned above. This is a full on race and nobody wants to see anyone get hurt out there, all these rules are there to protect the racers. Let me know if you have any questions.

Oh and TEAM FRED, if you are still having issues logging in to the Bonneville Off-Road site let me know, I'll PM you my phone number. Make sure after you register that you check your email and click the link in the mail from the site, that should allow you to log in after doing that.

haha yes i did clean up the tube before i welded it, and i am working on the firewall today. on the fuel cell, will a regular rollover valve be ok? or should i run a hose up and around like you said?

also on helmets, do they need to be full face? i was planning on using my motocross helmet witch is dot approved is that ok?

also we still need on more seat, if any one will let us barrow one that would be awesome!

The rollover vent can also wrap around the cell once and you mount the filter underneath it. You also do not need fire gloves to be bitd legal so if we are running bitd rules then you should be ok.

Im not the tech guy so don't take my word for it but if we are using bitd rules then you can go read them over at bitd webpage.

if that works then my fuel system is complete. i continued one side of the diagonal bracing down to the frame, im assuming i only ned one side because ive seen many roll cages that only have one? i still need seats and 17 inch 6lug rims if anyone has some they want to sell/barrow out that would be awesome!

Big O Tires in Sandy on 700 East has 2 sets of stock FJ Cruiser rims. They are 8" or 8.5" wide I believe (pretty sad that I don't even know what width my own wheels are). I'm sure you could talk them out of them for cheap. I forget what the lady's name is that owns it (I think it's Linda, not sure), but if you talk to her or Derek and tell them that Matt with the yellow FJ sent you out there, they'll hook you up.

Taken from the BITD rule book that is available online.

"SCR1: H
ELMETS
Helmets must be of approved by one of the following; Snell M2000 / SA2000 / M2005 / SA2005 DOT / ECE 22-05 / BSI sticker attached. Straps must have D-ring fasteners only. No snaps or velcro will be permitted. The interior and exterior areas of the helmet must be free of defects (i.e., the padding must be in good condition and the exterior of the helmet must not be damaged). Best In The Desert Racing Association strongly recommends that entrants use helmets specifically designed for racing."

I'll call the Big O shortly.. thanks for the heads up!

FYI

Redd said that he will accept SNELL95+, and newer(see very new and good condition) DOT only rated helmets.

We're in an all new class that in it's infancy.. The speeds are not going to be nearly as high as some of the average 'desert racing type' vehicles.. As such, Redd is allow a bit of leniency in the helmet rating forthe 4400 class.

That's good. I'm glad they are being as lenient as they are. It will help people to get out there, get hooked, fix their vehicles, and continue to race.

Slow vehicles on this track will make for a long day and sore backs.:D It's still gonna be kick ass though!

Slow is a relative term I think.. The 4runner can haul ass, but can it handle 80mph on bumps and dirt? Maybe, certainly not as good as some desert vehicles..

Besides, 50mph in the 4runner feels like 100mph ;)
