I'm still toying with the idea of speakerbox carpet, I just can't find it cheap anywhere. I'd like a waterproof coating underneath it so I can leave it at the campsite if necessary.

Thanks Scott, I'll look into that. I haven't heard of raptor liner before.

edit: holy crap, $110 bucks for a can? It looks like the finish is not as rough as herculiner, which is nice.

is durabak gritty like herculiner? Would it hurt you if you ran your hand along it?

I sprayed mine and it's less gritty than being rolled on ( not sure why) but its not a rhino liner. I do know the guy that owns Rhino of Utah pretty well. I think he spray your stuff for a decent price? Josh is the owner. Give him a call and see what he'd charge you?

best stuff I have found is called "hornet" dont quote me on that. A body shop next to me uses it on all the undersides of hoods and fenders. The can actually hooks up to your air compressor and it comes with 4 cans in a kit; enough to do a small bed. I really like how this stuff turns out because I hate the inconsistency of other roll ons or even professional spray ons. It dries super hard and feels indestructible. I plan to use it on my build for sure. I will find out the name for sure tomorrow. Also I know it sounds weird, but home depot has carpet that I have used before. It is mildew and UV resistant, something to think about.

oops, its called raptor, by u-pol.

When I read your first post I thought sounds just like the raptor, maybe its sold as hornet by someone else::rofl:

Oh and your not allowed to post unless its progress on your build!!!! It's like watching a weekly series of your favorite tv show, you always get left hanging wondering what's next.. Now get back to work!! You don't have time for the Internet!

It really is good stuff and may be the way to go Steve. It comes in four 1 quart jars and you just add activator shake it up and screw on the gun... You can only use 1 or 2 If you need and save the rest for something else.

You should really try it so I can find out how it works on wood. I may want to spray my picknik table at my property in indianola that sits out in the weather.

Steve, I just read through all 72 pages of this thread. I love how your truck has turned out! Makes me wish I would have bought a Yota instead of the Xterra haha. Now I need to find some trip reports to find out how well the truck is working for you...

Lenny, you're crazy for reading all that! You must be the only person other than me who has read through this entire build thread. Sorry that I couldn't keep the build thread on topic very much. There's lots of great info in here though. I should do a consolidated build thread without all the chit chat.

I wish you'd bought a yota instead of the xterra too :D j/k, xterras are very cool vehicles. The truck is working extremely well. I haven't even wired the rear locker yet, and it has gotten me through every trail I have tried it on. I did Forest lake last night, and it'll be at the noob run this Friday night if you want to see it in action.

Hey, good reading is good reading. I wish I had the persistence to finish a build I started.

For what its worth, I applaud your efforts through the internet. :golfclap

thanks lenny. The toughest part about a build is keeping it going and not getting discouraged halfway through. I love this rig; it turned out just the way I wanted it to. It's my DD and weekend warrior and it takes me everywhere I want to go.

Nope, I have read this entire thread as well. I did not do it all at once but, I did keep up with it the whole way through. Sixstringsteve has shown us all how to make a killer rig with well thought out parts, little money, lots of home work, and put it all together with hand tools most of us all own. The perfect situation for most of us.

thanks LT, you're kind.

I'll keep posting some updates as I keep improving it. i'm working on wiring the lockers now. Nothing ground-breaking here, but I'll get some pictures up.

I've also installed a toyota add a leaf to the rear chevy packs. Now it sits level. It's a bit stiff in the rear on the road, but it's good enough for now. It still flexes really well on the trail, which is why I haven't swapped to TG 3 or 4" springs yet.
