What time are you going? Wish I had the day off...

Tyson and I had a nice ride Saturday morning up there. We met at my house and rode up to Pine Hollow trail head, took 47 to 157 to Mud springs then down 173 to 40 and up the switch backs we got stuck on a couple weeks ago because of down trees. Thankfully someone had cleared them and we were able to blast up to Mill Canyon Spring. The switch back section of 40 was probably the most fun riding I've done so far. It was a blast hooking the banked switch backs and grabbing a bit of throttle coming out. We then took the dirt road down to Cascade drive where we saw a moose chilling in a pond. All in all it was a super fun ride. no problems. One part of 178 was muddy and I tipped over and had a hard time getting up the hill. It wasn't too busy either, just a few horses and other dirtbikers. I had my gopro but the battery died in the first 10 minutes and that footage is not in focus for some reason.

nice report Grant. That looks beautiful! Glad to hear the trees have been cleared from the 40 switchbacks, those are a blast.

for those who love to see other riders struggle:

Other than this hill, I didn't have any major trouble all day.

Steve, this was definitely a tough climb. I want to go back and tackle it again.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that struggled on it. It looks like we both got stuck in the same parts. If only we'd aired down our tires a bit more before that climb. It's funny how flat it looks in the video. I want to go back and conquer that hill sometime.

Steve, you need to drop a KDX200 motor in your 100 Chasis. What sprockets do you have on that thing. Seems like you could benefit from a little lower gearing. I dont know if you need the top end though.

So was I the only one that didn't fall on that climb that day? I thought both of you first two made it without dropping it. We'll have to do that trail again so everyone can redeem themselves :p

I don't remember. If you didn't see me fall on that very first corner where we started then I didn't fall. You guys will have to remember for me though. Anyone want to ride there this coming saturday?

I didn't think you fell but then I thought I heard you say in GAR's video that you fell. Not that it matters. I can't ride this weekend, I go to New York this weekend and won't be back till next Sunday.

That is a tough hill. The twists and rocks make it hard. Riding it on my 450 is a bit of a handful. I actually had the opposite problem, I got to the top and noticed both my tires were almost flat. I had to ride back to the truck and pump them up, then ride the hill again. To make matters worse, my dad has never fallen on that hill when I have been with him. He's 59. Its awesome I can still do things like this with him.

Sweet. What bike does he ride? I love watching good riders.

Corban on here once said if you ever want to be schooled on something, take an old guy. My FIL is 65 and he loves to ride. He's not fast anymore, just consistant. He rides an old WR250 oil burner and hates the new thumpers. Says he cant ride them.

When do you become an old guy? There is a lot of truth to that statement. When I race an occasional desert race I compete in the over 40 expert class and it is probably one of the most competive classes. At the last race, I finished 35th over all, but I was the 4th over 40. the 1st and 2nd place over 40 experts were in the top 15. If I dropped down and raced the over 35 expert class, I would have gotten 1st.

Well made it up for about a 30 mile loop today, just cruised up the main road to the forest lake turn off (which is kinda deep right now, went half way up my crank case). Took the single track from forest lake up to the 157, which I followed North. From there I putted around mineral basin a bit. I then went up a road i've never been up before, I want to say it was NF-70195. It was in between mineral basin and mary ellen gulch. Pretty ride, nice views up top, found some pretty sweet camping spots along the road. Had to bust through about 4 snow drifts some parts of them were still 3 -4 feet deep. According to my map I was almost to the top, but I ran into a section of road still covered by 4-5 feet of snow about 40 yards long.

Anyway nothing crazy since I was by myself, no pics because I didn't have a camera. But still a lot of fun

Hope one day I will be able to ride with all you you again :D stupid days off

I'm 47 and there are a few guys I ride with that are older than I am and they are really fast. I do all-right on a bike and these guys still are fast at 55 - 60. I would be interested to see sales numbers on new bikes because it just doesnt seem that there are as many people riding these days.

Sweet man, sounds like a good day. I did forest lake to 157 to pole line pass the other day too. One of these times I want to do the whole ridge trail (157)

I'm surprise there is still an impassable amount of snow up there. You must have been pretty high.

Maybe you could hook up with some of us on the occasional evening ride?

I've been racking up a TON of miles on my WR lately. This weekend we were about to head out and quickly realized my friends XR600 had a nasty random oil leak where the oil line bolts to the clutch cover. It was either sit home or throw him on my TE .....we made the right choice lol

Didn't get a chance to snap many pics but we had a ton of fun and pulled in just over 100 miles of mixed highway and single track.

That looks fun. All my riding buddies are headed to do the loop over Beaver Mountain to Bear Lake Friday but I am still out of town. Last year I got two flats on that ride and never actually got more than a couple miles out on the trail both attempts. Its one I want to do.
