General Tech What did you work on Today?

I worked on this today, and that's all I wanted to.get done. I beat on that bolt enough to snap it, then cut it off and drilled the hell out of the bushings to get them out. Stuckest stuck I've seen west of the Mississippi. TOMORROW, I am pressing out bushings and bolting things back together. I will be honing the bushing sleeves in the frame a little, too. And also assembling beadlocks, hopefully.20220917_155945.jpg20220917_160510.jpg20220917_160200.jpg20220917_173951.jpg

Well recently sold off my hotshot gig and was in need of a truck. Picked up this 2005 chevrolet 2500hd silverado LT. Had jaut rolled over 98k and had a huge list of high quality/smart crud done to the motor and trans. It's my favorite year range of these trucks body wise, it's sharp and can be modified anyway and still look good in my opinion.

But unfortunately she's not a 100% dream setup. Some areas of her build were skipped over such as suspension and steering but I'm remedying that like so;

First up was the appearance. I'm a chrome guy when it comes to these years and this color. I hated the tinted headlights, the tint was peeling, it kills your visibility etc. The grille unfortunately met its demise on a rough road by a lake, it damn near came completely out and broke off one side so I fixed all this and prettied it up. Just need to go polish everything around it to match again. I'd also like to mention for anyone else who swaps in any new headlight assembly whether it's oem or high dollar after Market, run some rtv around where the lens meets the housing. No sense in risking your lamp filling up with water or fogging out cause some glue boy was feeling sleepy when yours crossed his desk.

Next was to address the steering. The common thing being the weak ass tierods. I took this up one dirt road that was decent paved but had one vicious washboard section I took slowly and it still knocked me out of alignment. To solve this before they tacoed on me during the snow time I went with Rare Parts tierods, which despite the name were easy to find and order.

Now on to the interior. The aftermarket cell mounts for this that aren't just universal gayness are slim to none and weren't in my way so I came up with my own and incorporated a fast charger into it and data port for my stereo. Uses ram 1" balls and a giant magnet base that holds it firm. Drilled a hole in my center console storage bin and mounted it all up.

Tomorrow I'll knock out the rear suspension and show ya what else I've done so far. Toodaloo

Oh and I got my new subs and box and amp wired in today cause I'm still a punk kid who likes bass now n then. Two 10s with a 2400watt amp. All rockville, they're a decent brand, ran them on other stuff and never had an issue and after a break in they're hitting pretty good. Also they sent me 4 even though I only ordered 1 pair so hey cool beans.

Welded up this case today.
I believe this coolant passage was damaged by the motor being dropped? Couldn't say for sure. But it was definitely ovaled out.

Begin by grinding it. Luckily these cases were already vapor blasted.

...but still dirty crap cast pourous. First buildup pass (brings lots of the contamination to the surface).
20220921_143615.jpgcleanup, and smooth then another build and blend pass.

Then final cleanup and smooth. (Still needs to be blown out and likely hit the washer to get rid of all the AL dust).

I left a little extra thickness since I don't have the outer case to work off of. Should seal just fine and even if it takes a dab of rtv around the port we should be ok.

These case halves are matched and have brand new seals and bearings freshly installed....so this represents a thousand dollar + savings.
Thanks for watching.

"My truck" (shop vehicle) is the same style truck (2007 3500 DRW Classic) and I would like to do some upgrades to it also. But until the boss decides to actually sell it to me, I can't touch it lol.

Little more on Max, heres the list:
* cat fuel filter & oil filter mod
*rebuilt the fuel filter hand pump
*trans got a full service and ppe filters
*new rear lift blocks & u bolts
*replaced worn out steering stabilizer
*new batteries
*last week installed a drawtite class 5 hitch

Switched to the cat filters after seeing actual flow/filter charts of the cats vs oem plus they're cheaper 👌 also refreshed the lightly leaking hand pump with a seal kit and replaced the plastic bleeder screw with an aluminum one. While I was servicing it I decided to hit the trans as well since the last owner hadn't touched it since they did the shift kit and pan to it. Put the new transynd 668 atf in with the ppe filter package that like the cats is larger and better filtering. Also put an oem style gasket back in. The rear blocks I chose to level this came from Apoc Industries, good bunch of guys knocking out some quality stuff. The blocks that were in this had no angle for the pinion and for some reason they have an offset center pen setup. The Apocs are not only adjustable back n forth but have the ideal angle to them for my trucks WB/lift combo. Cruised it down the highway after and it honestly feels like it took out a vibration I wasn't noticing. It's super smooth and when I goose it you don't feel the axle wrap being they're longer on the top plate. Need to measure it out and add the leafapring to block clamps to help reduce axle wrap even more. The srabizer is self explanatory. Blown in n out. The batteries are the only refresher I'm not happy with. The ones that were in it were dated Oct 21 and they were the premium interstates. One tested out at 200amps out of 800, the other at 500ish.

Anywho, shots of the action

All leveled out after the blocks

Interstate batteries suck in my opinion. I replace their 6 year premiums at work regularly with only 2-3 years of actual use on them. Doesn't seem to matter if it's a small crossover SUV or an F550, they don't last more than 1/2 their advertised warrantee. I honestly don't know what would be better, but the OEM batteries that come in any of the newer trucks regardless of the truck manufacture seem to last the longest.

Yeah i was pretty shocked they died so young, and I agree, for road bound vehicles oem is where it's at, I've had optimas etc and they're just a waste for pavement pounders

Costco interstates have been a bust for me. They seem to last about 18 months. On the third set now and won't be replacing them. First ones were free replacement, 2nd were prorated so really cheap. It's not worth the hassle or the chance of getting stranded.
