Why does RME have a negative reputation?

I think the tech articles are great and I wish there were more trail rides. I like the pictures and the tech. I have looked and looked for the write up that Braden did on the do it yourself hydro assist steering. I also liked the do it yourself bead lock article. I used to feel the same way as some of the others stated about the "eletists" and the regular users and the "inside jokes" but then I grew thicker skin. You can't just expect to be in the mold when you first join up... people need to get to know you.

I just don't understand what the problem is, it's just the internet. Just don't let it effect you that much. I am at fault as much as the next guy when it comes to ribbing and some "keyboard warfare". It's just the internet though... right?

I stopped posting as many of my wheeling trips after my bypass trip ;)

Not really though...I guess just some people have thicker skin than others...I have a big RME sticker on my windshield and a lot of people have asked me about it...sure I also have a pirate and a wild yoats sticker, but for the most part I would just recomend this web site.

Back when I first became a member there were meet n greets all the time being posted up. I came to at least two that I can remember.....why don't we set up like a bi- monthly night that we meet at so and so place and just hang out...I would definitely do that.

Where is teh planning crew? Britney? I believe you made name tags for us at the last one I went to....seems like it was over a year ago!!

OK...How's this for an idea. Let's say in a few Saturdays (for planning) all get together and have a meet and greet. We can have eceryone bring their rigs and have a show kind of deal. If someone wants to help with details and such I can provide the location ;) we have a large parking lot and people can bring some BBQs and we can all hang and meet. Buggy guys, Comp guys, friends, strangers
everyone can roll out.

I still however think that since the evolution hard-core rock crawler there has been a shift in attitudes from the all inclusive, family oriented everybodys welcome feeling to a more exclusive,Im better then you type feelings.

Personally, this type of attitude is exactly what will destroy our sport and keeps us from making as much progress as we are capable of in the land use battles we find ourselves in. It doesn't take a Rhodes Scholar to note that the bitterness you seem to harbor towards people who drive different vehicles or find enjoyment in four wheeing for different reasons than you, is just the same type of 'exclusive' attitude that you claim is tainting the sport. As if "family oriented" four wheeling is somehow a more valid or noble means of recreating.... The hypocrasy, coupled with the complete disregard for logic, truly saddens me.

Sorry for going off topic, but I for one am willing to be an asshole about it. People who point fingers at others because they recreate differently need to take a serious look at themselves and decide if they are helping or hurthing their sport by maintaining such attitudes. Point fingers all day long and accuse whoever you wish about destroying the land--fact is, in the end that will accomplish absolutely nothing. People who drive buggies abuse the land, people who drive cj7's abuse the land, people who drive s10 blazers abuse the land. There is no statistical link between vehicle type and the probability of irresponsible land use--or even bad attitudes. Thats a fact. I for one wish I was more involved, but, if nothing else, I am the first person to point out people messing up, and I'm the first person to say what needs to be said when it needs to be said. But, then again, that is relative to my judgment which may not be the best ;)

You can refer to my article in the U4WDA newsletter about this subject, or start another thread and I would love to continue this debate.

and, for an on topic comment, it's stuff like what I just posted that makes people not like me--and thusly RME (not that I'm affiliated with RME beyond that I'm one of the more vocal members), for allowing me to be a jerk.

Don't be so hard on the guy Cody. He is just saying that he does not feel welcome, not that buggy guys are ruining the sport(or hobby as I think of it). Honestly when is the last time you posted up about a run you were making and invited all to join?

I've just seen him post here and on other boards with this rediculous idea that the rig you drive somehow affects your attitude or the way you respect the land. But, I shouldn't have made it sound so personal and for that I apologize.

As far as the wheelin trips, I haven't gone on a wheelin trip for quite some time. That time I ran into you we decided to go at 8 o'clock the night before.

So, I read in the local paper tonight that a Pinzgauer doesn't cause land abuse because of its superior traction.

Now if we wanted an elitist comment, no the Jeep attitudes, or Toyota attitudes, that is the most pigheaded and damaging thing I have heard directed at this form of family recreation yet.

Any use other than what Mom does abuses the land.\

So, if we all are related in that aspect, then why the hate and the negativity and the elitist attitudes?

Why the Bad rep for RME if none of the above?

I see a correlation. Brand/Style/Type Loyalty is great, nothing is better than anything, if you believe in the one and not the other, but maybe I believe in the other and not the one, you are no better or worse than me for your belief, and we shouldn't let our diversity in buggie verses stock CRV bring a dark shadow to this open (minded in theory anyway) board. Stop the hate, difference of opinion, thats what it is all about.

BS! Total BS! You have never seen me post anything of the sort! Not here, and not on any other forum.

My best friend has a buggy, I have said I have wheeled with many guys who own buggies and don't have anything against anyone who does.

What I do have a problem with is assholes who own buggies who also treat others who don't like crap!

Cody I don't know you but after what you wrote you are sounding more and more like one of these types!

You really want to know who is ruining the sport that I and most of you love? Its the jerks who build rigs that think that because they can go anywhere do so. I don't care if its a dude in a buggy, a guy in a Ford Highboy or someone in a Rubicon that because the salesman in the dealership said it will go anywhere thinks he can take it there.

I did not call anyone out on this board over that! I never said anyone on RME is even that way!

If you could get over your dumb ass Johny Knocksville lookalike self you might be able to see that I was actually standing up for RME and the people here not puting them down.

If you really think that I think just because you own a buggy you are out destroying the land you honestly do not have a clue about the way I feel.

I have said time and again there is a certian GROUP OF BUGGY OWNERS that are like this. Not once have I ever made the statement that ALL buggy owners are this way. Thats just stupid!

No one here can not tell me that there isn't a certian group that gives off the preception that the extreme rock crawling crowd is just a bunch of beer drinking, partying, leave there trash all over the place and don't give a sh!t about anything type of people.

They exist, they are out there and they are going to ruin it for the rest of us.

The problem we face is simply the fact that these types are the ones that make the news, suwa newsletters and such. They make the rest of the world look down on the rest of us in an unfavorable manor.

But to get back on topic....I really don't see that here! This was the whole point I was trying to make in my first post. Just that there are those types out there and because a lot of them drive buggies and there are lots of guys here who compete and drive buggies for recreational purposes that they can get grouped in together and thats not fair to RME.

Yes, there are people out there who go off the trail, rip up the land, leave trash all over the place, and generally give us all a bad image. I believe the vast majority of these people are full bodied rig owners who have not been involved in the sport (yes, I call it a sport) long enough to be educated about responsible use. Yes, I'm sure there are buggy owners out there who don't follow the rules. I'm also sure there are many more full bodied rig owners out there not following the rules. We need to educate (beat down) those not following the rules, regardless of what they're driving. I do think we're all on the same side, and just arguing about technicalities here. Everyone wants to keep the trails open, and everyone is frustrated at people who are supposed to be on our side but are instead giving us a black eye. Lets not focus on what offenders are driving, and then hold a grudge against everyone that drives a similar rig. Lets focus our energy on educating the offenders, and new inductees to the sport (anything where we pay to compete in purpose-built race cars in events televised on ESPN is a sport).

One time I heard the reason some don't like RME is because of all the bickering..... Well..... I guess this thread proves them wrong... :ugh:
