    Playing around at BFE

We had a good friend visiting for a day, so we took him out to BFE to check out the new trails. Here's a few picks from the latest. It runs from S&M to Dropkick, and we're calling it Blackout after the Dropkick Murphys album. It's pretty short, but lots of fun!

    Another coilover question

Yes, the shocks were charged when fully extended. First, I made an educated guess on the per-corner weight and ordered some springs, then installed everything with zero pressure in the shocks to calculate actual weight based on spring deflection. My original weight estimates were a bit off, so I...

    Another coilover question

Thanks for the replies. We're taking it out to BFE tomorrow for a test, so we'll see if they settle a bit...

    Another coilover question

So I'm pretty familiar with how to set up air shocks, but I don't have any experience with coilovers. I'm doing a 4-link / 3-link / stretch on a friends Zuk buggy, and he is using Radflo 2" emulsion coilovers, 7/8 shaft, 12" in the front and 14" rear. I weighed each corner, and used the FOA...

Behind the Rocks is a great trail, with some really nice scenery and a couple of pretty good obstacles. You'll go down White Knuckle Hill, but if your trail leader lets people try going back up, do it! It can be a pretty long day if there are a lot of rigs, and it involves about 10 miles of...

    New BFE trail is...... Dropkick!

Yeah, all by hand. We did use some expanding "demolition agent" stuff that we poured into some holes we drilled, but mostly it was just a lot of work with an electric rotohammer and jackhammer.

    New BFE trail is...... Dropkick!

We got enough rock chipped away today to connect the lower and upper parts of Dropkick. We still are going to chip off another 8-12", but I was able to drive through with my 82" track width.

If you do EJS trails on Monday, see if you can get Pritchett. I'm leading it, and my wife and friend are gunning (also driving zuks).

My rig is pretty similar to yours, and I've never been pulled over in 12 years. But you never know during EJS, they bring in out-of-area LEO's, and they will pull you over where the local cops will let you by. Usually if you are not doing anything stupid, and stay to the back roads as much as...

Headin your way from eastern wa

Rockmike - Jeep Safari week is always super hectic, but I'd love to meet up with you for a trail. My wife and I moved to Moab from Washington (Auburn area) abouot 12 years ago. Spent many weekends wheeling and camping in the Little Naches area, and dirt biking Cle Elum before that. Post up again...

    help we rock and bfe

No, that's on BFE property. However, that road is part of the EJS Strike Ravine route. Rich and I have been emailing back and forth. We have some ideas that might work. I'm hoping to go out to BFE on Sunday to check some stuff out and get some trail mileages.

    help we rock and bfe

The problem with Helldorado is that the exit is on BLM land, so that's out. I like James' idea of starting in the upper test zone. Then we could drop down and run a loop. We could string together Minor Threat, Green Day, the upper portion of Dropkick, then down Lockjaw to the lower portion of...
