It is a resistor that drops the voltage down a bit for the fuel pump. Maybe yours was dropping it a bit too much.

The gap is where the brake backing plate would normally go. You need a spacer to fill the gap. Some people cut the center out of the backing plate and put that in or they install spacers that come with most disc kits.

The six cylinder tach wouldn't read correctly with the signals from the 350 so some conversion or aftermarket tach would be needed. I should hook up my oscilloscope to both and compare the waveforms to see what it would take to convert the signal.
