Good Moab trail suggestions (mild wheeling)

You mentioned most of the ones that I would have suggested. Chicken corners is another scenic trail that isn't hard core. Seven Mile Rim and Gold Bar Rim are also good.

Short arm lift with a Rubicon Unlimited.

I have two brothers that have the RE 4.5 inch short arm lifts on their 05 and 06 Rubicon Unlimiteds. They both are very pleased with how they drive on the road. They say that the ride is a bit firmer than the stock springs. My sister in law drives one of the lifted ones and hasn't complained...

87 MJ oil in the air filter problem (blow by)

My son's 87 MJ has the common oil in the air filter box problem caused by oil blow by. The engine does have high miles on it but doesn't smoke and passes emissions just fine. I fixed the gummed up CCV (constant crankcase ventilation) metering grommet on the valve cover and cleaned out the hose...

    Rim question

Thanks for the feedback, he will be running them on a comanche with d44 rear and d30 front. He isn't much of a leadfoot and has never lost a bead yet. He runs 32 or 33 inch tires and currently has 15x8 rims.

    Rim question

I picked up a nice set of alloy wheels for my son's Comanche in trade for some welding. They are 15x10 (and 5 on 4.5). I have heard that the wider rims tend to lose the tire bead when lowering your tire pressure on the trail (more than the narrower rims). He will be running 33-12.5 tires. Should...

    Leaf spring bolts

When I have had trouble getting these bolts out on my old rusty cjs I put a deep socket on the bolt head side, the nut back on the other side, then put a very big c clamp across the bolt, then tighten it as hard as I can. Then use a big hammer and tap on the clamp a few times, tighten it some...

Anyone else been walking on water ?

Staying warm will be the challenge. I've tried to stay late at Scofield, fishing was good but when it hit about 15 below all of my bait froze up solid. If you had an ice hut and a heater it would be a lot better.

Anyone else been walking on water ?

I caught the Burbot on the tube jig I was using to get the Macs. We cooked it up tonight and it was good. Quite slimy though which made it interresting to filet.

Anyone else been walking on water ?

When we fished Scofield we went off the boat ramp on the north end of the lake. However they must have dumped a few truckloads of small planters there because we caught tons of little ones. Down south around the island I've heard they have been getting bigger ones.

Anyone else been walking on water ?

We fished off of stateline beach and around the Lucerne marina. We caught them on medium sized tube jigs tipped with chub meat. If you have ATVs or snowmobiles they have been doing well around Anvil draw and pipeline areas from what I've heard.

Anyone else been walking on water ?

I love this time of year when even guys like me can walk on water. We have gone on a bunch of good ice fishing trips to Scofield, Current Creek, and this last Friday and Saturday we made it up to the Gorge. The Gorge was a bit slow but we managed to get some eating sized Macs and even one of...

    Crazy sliding problem?

Converting to a power brake setup isn't that bad. I had a 77 cj7 and the first time I went out on ice I thought I was on a sled. I had the exact same problem you are describing. The fronts would lock up and the rears did very little, and with the front sliding you couldn't steer it. I swapped...

    xj speedo sensor

if you have a working sensor i could try that would be great i dont wanna go spend 40 bucks on one just to find out its not bad What year is your jeep ? I have several from different years.

    xj speedo sensor

I've never had one go bad. Is the computer showing sensor codes or is the speedometer not working ? It could be the speedometer too. I have several sensors and gauge clusters in the basement if you wanted to test them out.

    what to stay away from

Stay away from the 84-86 models as they had weak engines. 87-90 had the lower output engines and some had the weak Peugot 5 speed transmissions that are very expensive to fix. The 91 and newer XJs had the high output engines and better transmissions so that is what I would go for.
