    roof top spare

The Montero comes with lots of under-floor storage in the rear. Would hate to loose that.

    roof top spare

As much as I hate to do it for weight distribution, I fear I am going to have to carry my spare up top when I get new tires and keep a 32" for a spare. Don't think it will fit underneith. Other than buying an official mouting system (the smart thing, I know) are there any safe ways to strap...

Sipped MT vs AT or Discoverer ST

Glad to hear. Did some price shopping this week and pretty sure that is the way I am going to go. Any problems with sidewalls, esp when aired down?

    welded rear questions

Thanks for the insight. Sounds like something that is better off waiting until I can retire it from dd or save up for the ARB.

    welded rear questions

OK, more on the MS rear axle. Shaft diameter 1.4" with 9.5" ring gear. Now someone more mechanical than I will need to tell me what all that really means.

    welded rear questions

I don't remember off the top of my head the shaft or gear diameter. 31 spline and have heard (from Montero folk) comparable or little stronger than D44. I'll see what I can find out. Is the effect on turning, tire wear any different that would have with non-selectable locker? As far as...

Sipped MT vs AT or Discoverer ST

Other issue I have with Monty is it is time for new tires. As far as I know at this point, only 33" tire that fits easily is a 255/85R16 (I am still trying to find out how much trimming it will take to run 285/75). The 255/85 is not availible in a BFG All-Terrian. Main tire options I...

    welded rear questions

Thinking (since talking to Stratton last week) about options for my Montero Sport. Only locker option for it at all is front ARB. Thought I may have the money for that saved up, but ended up spending it on a shell when I bought the Ram this summer. So, I know that welded difs get used by...

Lets see your Fall Colors pics!

I have wanted to do the loop by Timpanogos (spelled wrong, ain't it?) Peak, but haven't made it. Did see great colors a couple weeks ago, but that was around Nome.

Looks alot worse than when I ran it 2-3 years ago. How would y'all currently rate the trail?

Nice trip report. I have been wondering how Kane Creek is now days, seems like a while back was pretty damaged/washed out by some heavy rains. Anyone add to his info on its condition?

    Nome, Alaska

I can see why. It is kind of an adictive place to visit, esp since different regions of the state are nothing alike. Last year I fished for a week along the Inside Passage (the panhandle) from Prince of Wales Island. Nothing at all like Nome!

    Nome, Alaska

Alright, so most of the roads are gravel and my rental not being a real trail rig I passed up the fun smaller tails, but fun none the less. Did just enough trails to ad some pinstriping to the rental :D. Drove 800 miles or so over the course of the week. Spent the week fishing and...

Summer's Last Stand (Ouray, CO and Southern Utah 8/13 - 8/23)

That is a heck of an area to cover in one trip! Great photos and write up.

    Hole in the Rock

Aug would, in my opinion, be the wrong time. We go to Lake Powell the first week of August every year. Not being fancy folks, we tent cam- no house boat. It is HOT. An 'average' year for that week will have highs 100-105. We have had some years with 112-115 every day. Although this year...

    Hole in the Rock

Under the trails current conditions, what rig requirements would be needed? Locked v open? Tire size? (alright, do you think it is a decent choice for my open Montero Sport, currently on 32s, probably have 33s soon?)

    Need Expedition planning/estimating help...

Nitpick SOMETHING? Only the main stat of your post! Sure, a lot of things can go wrong. But even though a lot of people go out under or unprepared. Fortunately far more than 75% of those trips come back without a death or even major injury.

The rest of you post makes sense, but that number????? Seems far less realistic than his trip plans.
