I don't think it's that. CA is far more rust-free than Utah, and they're still going for $1-2k less than they go here, even with the same mileage.

Maybe it's because they're more scarce here and demand drives the price up?

Yeah. I'm just afraid it'll sell right as my plane is landing. :D

If I don't get one in the next month or two, I'll make sure to drive one home when we go to the Rubicon.

Here's an example. In my mind, both of these cars are equal, or close enough to equal. I'd probably lean towards the CA car since it has less rust (though I do like the white of the UT car). 120k, both in fabulous condition. In fact, the CA car is better in my mind because it has the 1.8L, dual airbags, updated refrigerant in the AC, and its compaitble with the torsen rear diff (which it may actually have). I'll have to keep an eye on cars in the bay area and see if I can snag one.

CA $3000

Utah: $7500

Something is definitely off.

Bay area cars can have a lot of rust compared to cars from the valley areas. Still not as bad as here though. Look at Phoenix/Tuscon and Vegas as well. Dry low humidity and lots of young people.

i'm not quite ready to travel for a miata. I'm just trying to baseline and realize what cars are really worth across the nation. When I see the right miata that's priced fair to the national average, then I'll snag it.

Idaho has some really clean cars too since they don't use salt on the roads.

Something is definitely off.

The red one has a really poor repaint, I would question why it was repainted in the first place, plus it's an automatic and does not have the Torsen rear. That white one is not original, not to mention it's not anything close to an LE.

Steve, let me know when you narrow it down to a few you REALLY like and I will take a look as well, I could write a book on Miatas and likely have forgotten more than most folks will ever even learn about them.

I'd really like a '94-97 with the torsen. White is my favorite color, but I'm open to other colors (other than red or yellow). I want it to be clean. I just missed a 94, white with torsen, 130k for $2700. That's the sort of car I'm looking for.

Or, if it's already set up with aggressive coilovers (700 lb front, 350 lb back), and a roll bar, I would be willing to pay almost double that.

There's a white '99 sport (torsen, nardi, leather) with lots of suspension and other upgrades. 125k for $5700. It's a little out of my price range, but definitely worth the asking price:
