Broke my own cardinal rule last night about not dumping ALL of the fuel from a transfer jug into the OPE. I'm running a bit low on fuel and have to get some more this weekend but arrived home last night and had to clear 4 inches from all the concrete and the snowblower tank was empty from the morning snow removal. As I was dumping the last remaining fuel into the snowblower's fuel tank I got distracted and just as it was finishing I saw some black shit go through the clear hose to the tank. SHIT! I had hoped it wouldn't be enough to cause any disruption but nope, it bit me in the ass and rather quickly.

I only got about 15-minutes into the snow clearing process when it started missing and popping. I thought "well, that didn't take as long as I had hoped." Ended up taking it into the shop in the backyard, pulling the covers and then the carb to clean.

Once the carb was removed I opened the valve and let some fuel run through to let the bottom of the tank clear and then pulled the carb apart. There was black specs in both the main jet as well as the emulsion tube so after a shot of brake clean and compressed air I double checked the needle and seat to ensure it was holding and then all back together.

Fired right up and purred like a kitten for the next hour and a half of snow blowing. That idiot move cost me about 25-minutes of delay I hadn't planned on. šŸ¤¬

I canā€™t believe Iā€™m the only one who is surprised you havenā€™t built a custom stainless fuel filler tube with an inline caterpillar fuel filter on it, all TIG welded together. šŸ˜‚

Youā€™re building it right now, arenā€™t you?

I started a little project Iā€™ve been meaning to build for a year now. You can just buy these for about $100 at Tractor Supply, but why would I do that when I have plenty of scrap steel, a welder, $75 in consumables, two full days to grind all of the paint off, and $40 in diesel fuel for the garage heater?

Anyway, itā€™s a hitch thingy for the 3-point hitch in my tractor. You mostly use it to move trailers around your farm, but there are lots of other uses too.

I still have to cap the ends and add the hitch pins to it tomorrow. I may add some chain hooks to it as well.

Got asked to build another furniture piece for a family member about a month ago and finally found the time today to get it done. It is a very beefy floating shoe rack.

First I drafted a design to make sure it was exactly what they wanted.

Here's the progress shots. I created a jig (pic 2) that I tacked to the table to help make sure the three levels all stayed the same measurements at fit up.

And then the final results.

The flat bar in the back is the mount for Lag screws to secure it to studs in the wall. He asked I leave it "hole free" so he has the freedom to space it on studs however he prefers.

Pffftttt.. Buying something is over-rated. Much better to build it regardless of what they go for as so much sub-standard products on the market these days.

GREAT job! šŸ‘

Yep, and tractor implements can see a lot of hard use. It also keeps my wife from complaining about the scrap metal I store for 10 years or more.

Nothing too new for me to report on but Saturday I finally finished the two big projects I have been working on. My friends 02 Ram V10 truck is now running and ready to feed cows. I must have done something right as it started on the first try. The other project was my snowmobile motor. It melted a piston so I rebuilt it but it didn't run like it should. After a lot of studying Mikuni carbs I realized that building them from lots of scrap parts isn't the best idea. You have to get the main jet correct for full throttle, the pilot jet for idle, and matching needle jets and needles for 1/4 to 3/4 throttle. You also need to have the carbs synced and the timing correct. Once I did all that it ran great. Those motors are very touchy.
