My brother's 78 Blazer had a 44 from the factory. Its now narrowed and sitting in my commando.

The blazers in the 70s have front Dana 44s up to about 78 so it is a simple swap of the outer hubs and rotors.

On the 4 linked rear on my commando project I had to make longer outer axle tabs so that the flex joint would be centered in the normal ride position. You can use the same tabs but your joint will start out partially flexed which will limit its range of motion.

I wouldn't think that it would matter what the orientation would be.

We just picked up a low mileage 2002 WJ with the HO 4.7. It is much more powerful than our 96 ZJ with the 4.0. It is quite a nice cruiser for long distance trips. It goes great in the snow with the limited slips front and back and full time 4wd. I would think three kiddo seats would fit just fine.

We went out last year and it was a long 80+ miles of graded road. It was dry when we went but many spots had gravel added to them. Those spots should be fine but I'm not sure what the rest of the road is like when wet. The view is fantastic.

I have noticed that the some of the K&N setups allow alot of dirt to get by them and I have seen the IAC get gummed up. If the IAC is not working properly it will do exactly what you describe.

This looks alot like a ruin we saw in ruin canyon (Beef Basin) that we hiked up to except the window was in a slightly different spot.

We run e-lockers in all of our 44s and have had very good luck with them.
